Cambridge Racquets Club offers year round tennis coaching programmes, with a thriving junior section from 5 years old upwards. We have the exciting Mini Tennis Tribe for the young ones, and a challenging development and performance programmes for those serious on being good tennis players!
The Cambridge Mini Tennis Tribe!
The Cambridge Mini Tennis tribe is the exciting new way to get kids learning tennis. Starting out at Mini Tennis Tribe Red, the kids then move up to MTT Orange and MTT Green through passing a series of challenges that the coach sets them. Every term your child will receive a progress certificate showing how close they are to moving up, and the challenges they have completed! It's a great way for the kids to know they're improving, and for the parents too! PLUS...at the end of each term kids who complete the course get some cool Mini Tennis Tribe gear!!
Check the Weekly Schedule and Enrolment form above for more details but we offer:
- MTT Red 1, 2, 3 (3 levels) - (5-7 years) over mini nets, using low compression balls and shorter rackets.
- MTT Orange 1, 2 (2 levels) - (7-10 years) played on 3/4 court with low compression balls.
- MTT Green 1, 2 (2 levels) - (10-12years) played on a full court with a ball slightly softer than a normal full court ball.
After passing all the challenges at each level you can then move up to the Development or Performance squads! Seriously cool!!
Full Court/Development Teens
For those moving through the Mini Tennis Tribe, or coming to tennis at an older age, we have a very sociable Full Court Teen group every Monday to pick up the basics and play points against your friends and others keen to learn tennis! The Development Teens pushes you a bit further looking more into the tactical side of the game, and is a route to performance squads for some older players.
Performance Tennis
Three levels of Performance Squads run at Cambridge Racquets Club. This is for the serious, committed tennis player who wants to play tournaments and get a real understanding of what it takes to be a top athlete. Including specific squad, drill, fitness and movement sessions along with matchplay, a range of packages are offered to suit the needs of each individual. We expect a high level of self-motivation, drive, expectation, commitment and athleticism.
All players are considered on a case-by-case basis so please speak with Ian for more details.
ABOUT PROGRESSIVE TENNIS
Progressive Tennis was started in September 2008 by Ian Bishop, a DCA Qualified Tennis Coach from the UK. The purpose of this company is to serve the tennis coaching needs of Cambridge Racquets Club, with the long term aim of regaining its reputation for being one of the strongest clubs on the North Island.
Ian has worked at a variety of clubs and academies in the UK, and after graduating in a BSc (Business Administration) degree in 2006, began running an events firm before going back to his passion for tennis. Having started playing tennis at the age of 6, Ian moved up to county level while pursuing a coaching career from the age of 13! This experience has now set him in good stead to provide the best possible coaching environment for the Racquets Club, as we move forward to producing a steady stream of junior talent.
Vicky Toates began as Head of Mini Tennis in September 2009 and brings a strong and proven track record in developing young juniors into having a great base for performance tennis! A qualified PE teacher among many other things, she is also the main deliverer of schools tennis in the area.
Assistant Coaches Ross Laidlaw and Jarrod Dick have also come on board as part of the coaching team since September 2008. Current pupils at Cambridge High School, they are quickly learning the coaching trade and working towards their first tennis qualifications this year. They provide a great support team for the delivery of quality coaching at the Racquets Club.
Group and Individual Lessons Available: Please email progressive.tennis@live.com or call Ian on 021 842 810 for more information and to work around your requirements.
